Engage, Inspire, Equip, Mobilise. It started as four words. Today it’s a global community reaching 67 countries, run by twenty volunteers who believe project managers can change how the world delivers. 🌍
That community is the PMI UK Chapter’s Sustainability Community of Action (SCoA), and PMI has just featured our story in its new case study:
📖 How the PMI UK Chapter Turns Sustainability Interest into Everyday Project Practice
One moment sums us up. The night before our 2025 Sustainability Summit, our closing keynote speaker dropped out. By the next morning, a regional sustainability ambassador from our network had stepped in and delivered it. That wasn’t luck. It’s what a community built on practice looks like.
With no budget and no full-time staff, here’s how we’ve done it:
🔹 A year-round community. We meet weekly, with smaller events every few weeks. Sustainability isn’t a once-a-year topic for us.
🔹 A trusted expert network. PMI Sustainability Ambassadors, APM and the Major Projects Association help us bring in speakers from around the world.
🔹 A focus on practice. Our program is about how to build sustainability into delivery, not just why.
🔹 Volunteers who grow. People join as session hosts and become leaders, learning the subject by running it.
It all came together at SuSu26 – The Evergreen Project Manager, during London Climate Action Week: 421 live attendees, two keynotes and 18 sessions on the P5 Standard, social value, the SDGs, AI and real project lessons.
But we don’t measure success by attendance. We measure it by what people do differently afterwards.
What’s next? Our fourth Sustainability Summit in 2027, a volunteer playbook, and a goal for our core team to earn the CSPP credential.
