About the speakers

Adrian is a founding director of Nixene Publishing Ltd and the Editor of the Nixene Journal, a monthly publication for international subscribers providing insight into the fast-moving world of graphene and 2D materials. Based at the Graphene Engineering Innovation Centre (GEIC), at the University of Manchester, UK, Adrian is also a member of the board of directors of the International Space Elevator Consortium (ISEC)

Adrian began his career as a chemist, and took a somewhat circuitous path to publishing. As a scientist, his knowledge of graphene is extensive, and he is well versed in the potential applications for the material in space commerce, as well as here on Earth.

Since 2014 he has returned to his enduring interest in science and is now focused on the world of graphene and other 2D materials.

Adrian is a member of the International Space Elevator Consortium Board, and a Strategic Advisory Board member of Stellar Modal, the space transportation association.

Rob is the operations director of Nixene Publishing Ltd Based at the Graphene Engineering Innovation Centre (GEIC), at the University of Manchester, UK.

Originally trained as a professional archaeologist, Rob has had a slightly different career from the one planned.

Rob was the Executive Director of the prestigious Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses programme in Yorkshire and Humber and is the former Director of Small Business Programmes at Leeds University Business School.  In 2012 the 10,000 Small Businesses programme won the EFMD (European Framework for Management Development) Excellence in Practice award, and in 2012 Rob led the team that that won a Gold Award from the Government Small Business Charter initiative (one of only 3 Universities in the country to receive Gold status).

Rob contributed to the commercialisation module for PhD students at the Graphene NOWNANO Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT) and shared an international panel with Nobel Prizewinner Prof Sir Kostya Novoselov “A series of varied perspectives on our 2D futures”.

Rob was also a member of the panel of judges for the first Graphene Hackathon at the Graphene Engineering Innovation centre.
